"You have enlarged my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped." 2 Samuel 22:37
King David in his psalm of deliverance, reviewd God’s action in military victories. Despite his personal and leadership failings, David never abandoned the Lord. Unlike Saul before him who rebelled against the directive of the Lord, or Absalom his son who rebelled against "the Lord’s anointed, David" or Solomon after him whose heart was turned away to foreign gods, David’s loyalty to the Lord was singular, defining and unwavering. Yet even in this loyalty, he acknowledged the Lord for keeping him from slipping.
Yet, is not disloyalty to God a mere slip away? A man of God can so easily, so subtly turn away in some fashion or form, in a hair’s breadth. What a pray that would be, to imitate this man of God whose one great desire in life was to walk in loyalty to God. May this be our prayer as elders, as leaders of God’s people, "Lord, enlarge my steps under me, and let not my feet slip."
