Delivery 1

Series: Delivery of the Message
Presenter: Alexander Strauch

Lecture Outline | Detailed Outline

This is the first message concerning improving the delivery of one’s message. The speaker begins with how to take control over one’s time and message material.

Remember It

You will spend too much time on your first point or the introduction, and when you get to the part of the sermon where you want to spend the most time, you will be out of time. This is a common problem.

Lay the sermon out on a table and identify the part of the sermon where you want to spend the most time. Write little time markers on the sermon. This way, you will always have plenty of time for your most important section of the sermon.

To over-talk, to be too wordy, to take 20 minutes to say what you could say in 10, to repeat yourself 3 or 4 times.

Discuss It

  1. What did the speaker feel most passionate about in this presentation?
  2. Why is it important to know where in the sermon you want to spend the most time?
  3. What is the problem with spending too much time on your opening, introduction and first point of the message? How can you fix this?

Apply It

  1. The next time you hear someone speak, keep a record of how that speaker uses his time on the different points he presents. Did he spend too much time on the introduction and not enough time on the conclusion? Did the person over-talk and repeat himself too often?
  2. The next time you teach, lay your sermon out on a table and write time markers over each major point. Will you give 5 minutes to one point, and 10 minutes to the next? Mark these things in your sermon manuscript.
